WWF Oasi in Tuscany and Italy

1967: WWF Italy was born...

With a decision of the National Council the hunting rights of Lake Burano were acquired to make it an oasis of bird protection. It is the first oasis of the WWF and by its foundation also the soul of the Association is born: to make concrete actions.

Over 50 years have passed and today the Oases are over 100, covering more than 30 thousand hectares of territory. They are visited by more than 500 thousand guests and employ more than 150 people, including employees and young people of cooperatives. A complex system of protected areas, the first in Italy managed by a private association and among the first in Europe. From ecotourism to nature holidays, from the legal protection of parks to education, training and environmental information programs: there are many projects and activities carried out by the Association at national and local level to defend nature reserves.
